Battery Modelling Engineer – Battery Management Systems
Job duties:
- Battery modelling
- Cell modelling: predicting battery performance for pack design, providing information to feed Battery Management System (BMS) development
- Experience with cell electrical & thermal modelling (finite element thermal models, cell ageing modelling from theoretical models and/or experimental data, Object-oriented multi domain modelling of single cells for performance, heat generation, temperature distribution)
- Module and pack modelling:
- Scaling up of cell models from a lumped model into module or pack model
- Modelling different cooling systems interfacing cells to inform design
- Battery testing
- Supporting battery test planning to validate models developed
- Parameter extraction (input data for BMS algorithms: Capacity and OCV curve extraction, ECMs, DCIR)
- Data analysis (automated scripting, exploration, pattern spotting, reporting)
Key skills:
- Knowledge of battery system architectures and battery management systems
- Experience of using model-based development languages such as Matlab & Simulink
- Knowledge of cell electrical and thermal modelling techniques
- Knowledge of cell testing techniques
- Ability to generate battery model plans, analyse data and report on performance
- Proactive, self-motivated with a keen attention for detail
- Willing to learn new skills and problem solve on exciting, technically challenging projects
- Communication and team working skills
Desired qualifications & experience:
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
- Familiar with laboratory equipment and test facilities
- Familiar with measurement, calibration & testing conditions
- Exposure to other coding languages (C, C++, C#, Python)
- Familiar with good software practices, coding standards, version control/management, issue tracking, and testing
- Ability to conduct literature research to keep up to date with latest developments
