Applications Engineer – Additive Manufacturing

 

Background

 

The business can be sub-divided into three key areas, the first of these being the pursuit of sales, the second being the delivery of sold products and the third being the support of sold products once delivered. These three areas can be conveniently described as Pre-sales, Post-sales and After-sales.

Furthermore the ‘Products’ that the company sells can be divided into four separate technology sectors, Milling, Turning, Grinding and Additive.

This role would primarily be involved with the pre-sales and post-sales activity specifically related to the ‘Additive Equipment’ that they sell, namely Gefertec (Wire Arc Additive Manufacture) and SLM (Laser Powder bed Fusion) machines.

 

The role

 

The company are currently looking for a graduate engineer to join the company within the Additive Manufacturing Team. As a key member to the Additive Manufacturing Team, you will assist in the identification and enablement of applications for current and potential customers. You will understand the commercial opportunity for each customer and work with them to maximise their additive manufacturing applications where appropriate. While communicating with any customer your prime approach is from an engineering problem solving strategy.

 

Responsibilities

 

Providing customers with technical support.

Evaluate customer-supplied 3D CAD data.

Contributing to sales and, customer application presentations.

Maintain expert level of knowledge in products, key applications, and processes.

Supporting customers with production applications.

Support the Sales team in verifying customer business cases.

Prepare time studies and recommending build strategies.

Preparation and presentation of additive manufacturing technical content.

Supporting Customer with demonstration visits to principals’ facilities in Germany.

Support in the presentation and demonstration of equipment at Trade Shows and Open Houses.

To carry out programming and operator training at the company and customers sites in the UK and Ireland.

The company also has offices in the Gulf region and there will be the opportunity to travel to the Gulf to support projects.

 

Requirements/ Useful skills

 

Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field- (Mechanical/Manufacturing engineering, Materials science)

Understanding of materials and how different processes cause changes in the structure and properties of the finished part.

Interest to work hands on with metal AM technologies working in the facility as well as potentially at customer sites.

Ability to use CAD software (Nx/ SolidWorks/ Inventor)

Understanding and a strong interest in Additive manufacturing.

Ability to work in a team and independently when required, working in a logical methodical manner to solve problems and develop processes.

Ability to develop and maintain internal and external customer relationships.
