Position Overview: Senior Process/Project Engineer (Pre-Sales & Execution)

As a Senior Process/Project Engineer at a leading engineering and equipment company, you will report directly to the Head of Process Engineering. Your main responsibilities will involve creating designs, preparing both technical and commercial proposals, and overseeing the execution of projects from detailed design through to commissioning. You will manage smaller projects and provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales Duties:

  • Collaborate with the sales team during client visits and presentations.
  • Translate client requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Size process equipment and piping systems.
  • Develop preliminary P&IDs during the inquiry stage.
  • Formulate key assumptions, execution plans, and define scope boundaries.
  • Estimate costs for equipment and component supply.
  • Review inquiry documents with various departments and clarify any uncertainties.
  • Assist multiple functions in preparing their respective scopes and cost estimates.
  • Consolidate costs to create a comprehensive cost calculation.
  • Develop overall execution plans and timelines based on consolidated information.
  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals that align with defined scopes of supply.
  • Maintain proposal documentation in accordance with company procedures to ensure compliance with established requirements and standards.

Performance Metrics – Pre-Sales:

  • Ensure accuracy of designs and cost estimates.
  • Maintain precision in scope definitions.
  • Manage scope discrepancies effectively.
  • Deliver proposals within agreed timelines.
  • Handle multiple proposals efficiently.
  • Achieve design recycling and quick turnaround times.

Execution Duties:

  • Support the project manager during client visits and presentations.
  • Assist the project manager with change control and scope variations.
  • Create designs for P&IDs, equipment lists, datasheets, and process and functional descriptions.
  • Generate requests for quotations from sub-suppliers and review their submissions, seeking clarifications when necessary.
  • Conduct supplier bid analyses and recommend vendors to the project manager or supply chain manager.
  • Review design documents with various functions and clarify where needed.
  • Collaborate with sub-suppliers on design documents and clarify uncertainties.
  • Participate in commissioning, product testing, cleaning tests, and initial production support.
  • Maintain project documentation in accordance with company procedures to ensure compliance with design and QHSE standards.

Performance Metrics – Execution:

  • Ensure accuracy of designs.
  • Achieve contractual performance objectives.
  • Manage scope changes and gaps effectively.
  • Deliver designs within agreed timelines.
  • Manage multiple contracts simultaneously.
  • Aim for first-time commissioning success.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Food/Dairy, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in:
    • Leading and managing process/equipment bids and proposals.
    • Conducting client-facing presentations and justifying design costs.
    • Engineering and equipment supply for hygienic processes (food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, or personal care).

Capabilities:

  • Ability to independently create designs (P&IDs, mass/energy balances) from scratch.
  • Proficient in accurately calculating process capacities, equipment, and piping sizes.
  • Skilled in independently assessing risks and ensuring compliance with QSHE regulations.
  • Experience managing small projects, including scope, changes, costs, time, and quality.
  • Ability to oversee a small team of engineers and contractors while providing support and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, formulations, ingredients (both liquids and solids), technology, and equipment suppliers in the food, dairy, beverage, or personal care sectors.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position will require international travel (2-3 times per year).
