Job Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the Automation Software Manager with all aspects of the department.
  • Ensure both the companies and Client Health & Safety standards are upheld across all project engineering liaising with the Health, Safety & Quality department.
  • Supporting the Automation Software Manager in the operational activities of the Automation Software team.
  • Support the Automation Software Manager with the day-to-day activities of all Automation resources in conjunction with the other members of the Engineering team to ensure resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to balance the need of all projects.
  • Support the recruitment of Automation Software Engineers, permanent and contract engineers as deter-mined by the business.
  • Support of quality, completeness, consistency, accuracy and production efficiencies of designs produced by Automation Software team. This may involve travel both domestic and internationally.
  • Assist the Department Manager with planning including resourcing, budgets, technical guidance and training.
  • Assist in the management performance, conducts, and appraisals, provide technical expertise and guidance, training and mentoring of the software team.
  • Assist and provide input to any on-going continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering department.
  • Assist and provide support to the pre-engineering department.
  • Act as a Lead Engineer working to assist overall project manager, this would include regular progress and status update meetings with the overall project manager, site management and commissioning as required. This may involve travel both domestic and internationally.
  • Attend regular Senior Engineering team meetings.
  • Assist with ensuring training needs across the department are identified and planned to ensure capability, standards and compliance is maintained.
  • Work across a number of projects to support the Senior Engineers, Engineers and Graduate Engineers on their projects.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for automation aspects of projects ensuring projects are delivered to specification and project program.
  • Specific department wide technical duties as allocated by the department manager.
  • On call as part of the support roster. Typically, 1 week every 7 weeks.
  • On site visits / commissioning at sites both in the UK and overseas as agreed with your Line Manager/ Director to suit the needs and demands of projects.
  • Liaison and assistance with the overall project team, Client team and third-party suppliers.

Experience Required: 

  • Control System Architecture Design.
  • Writing of Functional Design Specification.
  • Control System Software Engineering (Designing, Writing, Testing and Commissioning).
  • PLC Software. Siemens S71500 in TIA, Step7 S7400s, Rockwell Control Logix and others.
  • SCADA Software. Siemens WinCC 7, Factory Talk SE, iFix, Wonderware System Platform and others.
  • DCS software. PCS7, Proleit Brewmaxx, ABB and others.
  • HIM Software. Siemens TIA and Rockwell Studio 5000 and Factory Talk ME and others.
  • Batch Engine Software, Batch System Software. Applying S88 Batch Standard.
  • Recipe and Reporting Systems.
  • C, C#, VB programming.
  • I/O System Design including Profinet, ASI, Profibus DP, Profibus PA, EtherNet IP.
  • Network Design (including configuration of switches, routers and firewalls).
  • Cyber Security and Knowledge of IEC 62443 Cyber Security Standard.
  • Database Setup and Interfacing.
  • System Virtualization using VMWare (including setup of ESXi servers and virtualization of control system infrastructure).
  • Internal Testing and Simulation of Software with process engineers.
  • Documented Software FATs to FDS and Test Specifications.
  • Systems Engineering or Control Systems Engineering or Computer Science Degree, HND or HNC.
  • Master’s Degree Preferable.
  • Chartered Engineer or prepared to work towards CEng status.
  • Language – English (any foreign language skills could be considered beneficial).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Control System Engineering preferably within the hygienic pro-cess industries (brewing/distilling/food/pharmaceutical/health & beauty).
  • Knowledge of engineering within batch processes within the hygienic process industries.
  • Alternatively (or in addition) experience in an industrial environment of network design and configuration, virtualization, cyber security engineering, database configuration, C#, C, VB, Web Based reporting development.
  • MS office also proficient in Excel, Access, Microsoft Project.
