About this position: 

We currently have a great opportunity for an Electro-Mechanical Engineer on a contract basis with a global engineering solutions company who have a proven track record serving the product lifecycle needs of high technology companies.

Job Responsibilities:

The role may include, but is not necessarily limited to the following activities: 

  • Satisfy the requirement set through design and development activities. 
  • Implement the hardware architecture in physical and electrical form, fit and function. 
  • Define the Hardware Test and Acceptance Specifications. 
  • Demonstrate compliance to the requirements set through integration, verification and validation activities including the production of Test Reports and certificates. 
  • Develop and agree a Work Package Plan and Schedule with the relevant xEM and then take responsibility for completion of the assigned Work Package tasks in accordance with the Plan and Schedule, requesting assistance as needed. 
  • Carry out hardware engineering activities in a team / multi-stakeholder / multi-discipline environment. 
  • Support colleagues working in the team throughout the project lifecycle. 

Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Strong relevant experience of the Skills listed above or associated experience that can be applied to electrical and electro-mechanical design in an Inboard (dry) sub-sea / surface ship platform environment. 
  • Design and specification of COTS and bespoke sub-assemblies and equipment suitable for 19” racks / cabinets 
  • Design of associated copper (electrical) / fibre (optical) network interconnections, cable and harness assemblies, power distribution and data comms. 
  • Full engineering lifecycle experience (Capture, Design, Implementation, Test). 
  • Experience of designing to meet EMC and environmental requirements. 
  • Experience of producing electrical designs and certifying designs to comply with the LV Directive. 
  • Experience of selecting and designing products and materials compliant with RoHS and REACH Directives. 
  • Experience of producing Technical Files and certification to meet CE / UKCA marking requirements. 
  • Working with requirements in a structured and evidential manner. 
  • Production of Design / Test Specifications and Test Reports.  

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Naval platforms, standards and equipment practices. 
  • IEC 60297 (Mechanical structures for electronic equipment in harsh environments). 
  • DEF STAN 08-107 (General Requirements for the Design of Electrotechnical and Naval Weapon Equipment). 
  • Designing with mechanical and solid state relays. 
  • Designing with PCI, RS485/232, Hotlink and Ethernet interfaces. 
  • Designing cables and harness assemblies, utilizing military style connectors and backshells, such as MIL-DTL-38999.  
  • An understanding of cable screening methods and military style cable construction methodologies. 
  • An understanding of the relevant IPC specifications. 
  • Implementing IP networks / COTS network hardware.

Skills:

Essential:

  • General Electronic and Electrical Engineering Skills and ability. 
  • Integration of COTS and bespoke equipment sub-assemblies into 19” racks and cabinets. 
  • Interconnection Design (cabling and connector types, typical usage, environmental considerations). 
  • General understanding of Engineering Development lifecycles. 
  • Knowledge of EU Directives. 
  • Microsoft Office suite.
